KY OSY Profile

Several states have begun to add OSY Profiles to their MIS2000 systems but I think KY is the first to get it integrated into their web app. We like to remind everyone that there's never a charge to add new kinds of migrant data to your MIS2000 system. If it helps you serve the students or make you more productive, we'd like to know about it.

Set up Resources to manage shared files with MIS2000 Online!

Alaska has just got through testing and setting up file sharing online using MIS2000 web services.  This will give them a better way to mange files that need to be transferred and shared between State, Regional and District users in a secure safe way.   Kevin wrote a detailed blog about File Sharing with MIS2000, click on the link to read all about it.

Student Lists in MIS2000 Web App

Lists are one of the newest features in the MIS2000 Web System and are still going through a lot of development. If you visit the Search page you'll see three tabs: "students", "coe", and "lists". Clicking on the lists tab will get you something like this:

COE Eligibility Panel Enhancements

Over the last few years, especially as more and more states have been taking advantage of the tablet system to collect electronic COEs, we have updated the COE Eligibility panels for several states to be much more in line with the National COE’s Qualifying Move & Work section.    The updated panel follows the numbering and wording on the paper COE and that even extends to the text in many of the drop down controls.   Even though this change has been primarily requested by states using the tablet system, it is a nice enhancement that might be appreciated by many MIS2000 users.    Below is a screen shot of the Kentucky COE Eligibility panel which was recently updated.   Please let us know if you’d like to consider making a similar update to your Eligibility panel and we’ll work through the details and make it happen.

Louisiana Needs Assessments in web app

Louisiana has become the second state to begin collecting their Needs Assessments through the web app. This gives personnel who are not carrying a full installation of MIS2000 to still be able to fill out a Needs Assessment for a student.

Secure file sharing with MIS2000

Sometimes you may need to share a document with a colleague, maybe a scan or a PDF, that has sensitive data. Sending this kind of document as an attachment in an email is a terrible plan. You should always regard everything sent in an email to be essentially visible to the world. You may have a secure email system, but unfortunately these can be very cumbersome to use.

Uploading supporting documentation

MIS2000 has allowed users to scan documents into the system for a long time, but that's not as practical with web users like service providers who will be more likely to have their supporting documentation as PDFs or Excel files. So several states have asked us to give them a way for web users to upload documentation. For different states we've allowed these documents to be uploaded against Services/Supplemental Program records, Needs Assessments, or just against the Student record itself. It really just depends on how each state needs to have their documentation organized and accessible. You can see an example of how Maine allows documents to be uploaded against the Student record by clicking here.

Electronic COE - Past, Present and the Future

Welcome to the New Year!!!
It is not too early to start thinking and planning for the 2016 National Migrant Education Conference.  If you don't know already, it is going to be in warm, sunny San Diago, Calafornia, April 24-27, 2016.  After what is probably going to be a long, cold winter, it will be a warm, welcome break

COE Pre-screening and Electronic COEs

Over the last couple of years, a few of our states have expressed interest in pre-screening families for eligibility before actually filling out a COE.   For these states, pre-screening families seemed useful when they were completing paper COEs and they wanted to move that pre-screening process into MIS2000 to work hand in hand with their electronic COEs.  In honor of the first state who requested this functionality (KY), we refer to this pre-screening data as the BIP (Basic Interview Pattern for Determining Eligibility).  Basically, the BIP is a short set of questions that can be used to help determine if a family is eligible for the Migrant Education Program.  The set of questions in the BIP is completely customizable to fit your needs and depending on the implementation, we can even create and transfer BIP data into a new COE if it is determined that the family is likely eligible!
