MIS2000 Stops Transmitting Sex to MSIX in Builds After May 27
Summary
Starting with MIS2000 builds dated after May 27, 2026, the Sex field will no longer be included in records sent to MSIX. This change brings MIS2000 in line with a corresponding change on the MSIX side. No action is required from MIS2000 users.
Background
On Monday, May 11, 2026, the Office of Migrant Education (OME) removed MDE #9 (Sex) from MSIX. From the OME announcement:
MDE #9 – Sex has been removed from MSIX. As of today, Monday 5/11, MSIX users will not see MDE #9 - Sex in MSIX. It has been removed from all screens, including when viewing student records, running reports, and on worklists… OME strongly recommends that States stop submitting MDE #9 – Sex. If States do continue to submit MDE #9 - Sex, MSIX will not process or display it.
OME has published an updated MDE list (version 14) and revised File Specifications on the MSIX Resources page.
What’s Changing in MIS2000
MIS2000 builds dated after May 27, 2026 will:
- Stop including the Sex element in MSIX upload records.
- Stop including the Sex element in MSIX delete records.
That’s the whole change on the MIS2000 side.
What Is Not Changing
- Sex remains a stored field in MIS2000. Your existing data is unaffected — only the outbound MSIX transmission has changed.
- Sex continues to be available inside MIS2000 for state reporting, state-specific exports, screens, and any other workflows that already use it.
- Prior MSIX submissions and assigned MSIX IDs are unaffected. No re-resolution is triggered by this change.
What You Need to Do
Nothing. The change applies automatically the first time you receive an MIS2000 build dated after May 27, 2026. There is no configuration step and no impact on existing MSIX IDs or earlier submissions.
